Position Summary

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, performs laboratory assays and complex experiments to elucidate novel research questions.

Responsibilities
    Works with Principal Investigator to plan and structure research experiments to elucidate research aims.
  • Executes laboratory experiments specific to aims of research.
  • Troubleshoots assays and customizes experimental tools to elucidate research questions.
  • Coordinates external and internal resources necessary for completion of research plan.
  • Generates clear and complete records of experimental work.
  • Communicates results of research at meetings.
  • Participates in publication of research results.
  • Adheres to BCW, Bio-safety, NRC, and OSHA procedures and regulations.
  • Attends required laboratory and research meetings.
  • Maintains currency with information relative to the field of research.
  • Operates, calibrates and performs routine maintenance on specialized research equipment
  • Prepares solutions, reagents, media or stains necessary for experimental procedures.
  • May maintain or assist in maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • May prepare requisitions for ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for providing direction to Assistant Research Technologists and Research Trainees.
  • Performs other laboratory duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education and experiences. required

Experience

  • 1-3 years relevant laboratory experience required beyond receipt of bachelor's degree. required
  • Elisa, Western Blot, Rtpcr, RNA and DNA isolation, mice work, flow cytometry preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of theoretical basis of work being performed. required
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. required
  • Proficient in research laboratory techniques. required
  • Strong detail orientation and analytical ability. required
  • Ability to accurately carry out experiments and tasks by following established guidelines. required
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks. required
  • Effective organizational and communication skills. required
  • Familiarity with computers and software applications desired preferred
