Job Description:

In partnership with fellow RN charge nurse, responsible for managing the overall functions/operations in a defined scope of practice with the Outpatient Surgery Center (OSC). Acts as a daily specialty's resource and directs and develops people within a team focus. Provides leadership in quality improvement activities and team goal setting. Acts as a change agent consistent with Gundersen Health System's vision, mission and strategies.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Sound, independent practice in daily role as surgical technician.
2. Sound knowledge of specialty procedures, instrumentation, preference cards, and supplies.
3. Development of staff preceptor, coach, counsel for advice, mentor and evaluation of staff progress.
4. Creates and maintains efficiency and effectiveness of team operations:
Resource individual for new equipment, supplies, instrumentation, changes or updates.
Independently monitors instrumentation inventory and upkeep.
Looks at new specialty equipment/new supplies to stay current with latest standards of practice.
Aware of annual budget process and need to operate within budgetand directs team in cost effective concepts.
Works within team to set short and long term goalsand integrates these goals into overall O.R. operation, and monitors these goals.
5. Manages and resolves conflict.
6. Serves as liaison to other specialty teams and team leaders.
7. Performs other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
8. Oversees instruments and supplies on preference cards.
9. Keeps preference cards changes up to date and preference cards reviewed annually.
10. Assures base procedures match surgical procedures via Epic snapboard.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency + completion of a Surgical Technician Program

Work Experience:
REQUIRED
3-4 years of experience.

DESIRED
5-7 years of experience.

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) within 2 years of hire date
Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Adolescent (13 - 17 years)
Adult (18 - 64 years)
Geriatric (65 years & older)

OSHA Category:
Category I - All Employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.

Environmental Conditions:
Exposed to infectious diseases.
