What to expect:

  • This 12-week training opportunity comes with full pay and benefits while trainees go through our in-house, accredited training program to gain the knowledge and hands-on skills to prepare and sit for the national pharmacy technician certification exam.

  • Satisfactory completion of the trainee program and attaining certification will allow movement up into a permanent Certified Pharmacy Technician position with Gundersen!


Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency + completion of Math and English competency

  • Ability to work full time (scheduled for 40 hours/week) with shifts including Day, PM and rotating weekend hours.

  • Ability to work at the following locations (rotating): West Salem, La Crosse, and Onalaska.

3. Once the team reviews the on-demand interview feedback, they will select those top candidates to move forward for an in-person interview with the Pharmacy team. Candidates will also be required to complete a basic math and English competency assessment.

Job Description:

Pharmacy Technician Trainee is actively participating in the Pharmacy Technician training program, meeting all requirements of the program. After completion of the program the Trainee will staff under the supervision of a pharmacist, with limited responsibilities in the area of practice designated by the Clinical Manager. Responsibilities will be applicable to assigned area of practice. This is a temporary role that will last up to 12 months.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Provides customer service to both patients and Gundersen Health System staff, including triaging of phone calls.
2. Monitor and file paperwork as directed by next level staff and/or next level leaders.
3. Perform stocking of inventory.
4. Initiate pharmacy requisitions.
5. Package products and prescriptions accurately for distribution to customers/patients.

Retail Based Responsibilities

1. Receive, check, and shelve medications and merchandise in a timely manner; keep store clean and uncluttered.
2. As requested by Store Manager, sales associate may function as back up delivery driver to ensure patient access to products and medications.
3. Complete customer transactions using Point of Sale (POS) register system.
4. Complete mail management for Mail-Out programs.

Hospital Based Responsibilities

1. Assist with timely delivery of prepared medications within the hospital through various means, including direct person to person delivery and through use of pneumatic tube system while maintaining pharmacy's medication management and infection control procedures, policies, and regulations.
2. Responds to and triage phone calls and requests from staff at pharmacy counter.
3. Assist with stocking medications into inventory, including cycle counts and out-dates
4. Repack finished medications for unit dose dispensing.
5. Contact external pharmacies or facilities to request information to support the care of hospitalized patients.

6. Completes automation replenishments while following medication management expectations as directed by their next level leader.


Training Program Tasks under the Supervision of Registered Staff Members
1. Repacking of medications from bulk to unit dose.
2. Dispense medications within a timely manner.
3. Load, refill or otherwise manipulate medications in an automated dispensing cabinet
4. Remove medications that are discontinued or expired from the units and return to the pharmacy.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency + completion of Math and English competency
