Saab is seeking a Principal Program Manager (PM) to be responsible for the profitable oversight and execution of Development Programs within the Naval Systems segment.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in the design, development and fielding of large scale, complex military systems, and an in-depth knowledge of military or commercial aerospace systems, markets, and technologies through several years of working in this domain.

Reporting to the Director of Naval Systems, the PM will lead a team of program managers to successfully execute development programs within Naval Systems, supporting and shaping the business execution and growth of the Naval Systems segment. As a leader in program management within Naval Systems, the PM will have oversight over the program management functional discipline for their direct reports.

The PM will be responsible for the cross-functional coordination and execution of programs in Naval Systems, establishing, codifying, and maintaining the necessary relationships with the Surveillance and Operations functions required for the successful execution of Development Programs. Key functions include Engineering, Supply Chain, Integrated Logistics Support, Contracts, and Finance.

The PM will be an active member of the Naval Systems management team supporting the Naval Systems Director's strategic objectives listed below:

  • Developing and maintaining strategic input for the growth of the business.

  • Working with the Saab Inc Marketing and Sales team to maintain customer relationships and support capture activities.

  • Maintain connectivity and business rhythms to Saab, Inc. functions to ensure successful Naval Systems execution.

Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Specifically accountable for cost, schedule, and technical performance of assigned program portfolios.

  • Establish and control program budgets that are aligned with program needs.

  • Ensure all projects within assigned program are managed and executed within approved program management processes.

  • Make personnel recommendations in support of business objectives.

  • Work with engineering and operations leaders to ensure resource needs are visible and as predictable as possible in a shared resource environment.

  • Drive Earned Value Management principles and initiatives within the business and use EVMS to report program status internally and externally.

  • Projecting direct project costs for all revenue-generating contracts including the associated contract margin for each customer project. Plan for margin adjustments when changes to program baselines are necessary on Firm Fixed-Price programs.

  • Plan and oversee R&D that aligns with development activities.

  • Introduce best practices specific to program management of development activities.

Provide functional management and leadership to a team of program managers to ensure effective and efficient execution of development programs.

  • Monitor and guide junior PMs to achieve delivery of distinctively high-quality products and services; to include performance, reliability, cost and on-time delivery.

  • Contribute to the development and retention of program management talent.

Compensation Range: $154,300-$204,500

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor'sdegree in engineering, science, or related discipline is required.

  • 20 or more years of significant experience in an Engineering development environment, with preference for aerospace and defense experience

  • 5 or more yearsofpeople management experience, directly or indirectly leading teams of 10 or more individuals.

  • Experience successfully negotiating multi-million dollar agreements with aerospace and US Department of Defense customers.

  • Demonstrated track record leading large scale aerospace and defense business capture efforts.

  • Must possess advanced knowledge of program management standards and best practices (scheduling, cost accounting, EVMS, Risk/Opportunity management).

  • Ability to contribute to the development strategy and lead strategic initiatives in support of functional and business objectives.

  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% in support of program and business development efforts.

  • Must be capable of obtaining a Secret level clearance.
