Job Description:

The Director, Strategy function facilitates the regional five-year, one year goal and strategic planning process per enterprise & regional operating model and execution methods. The Director, Strategy is part of the Strategy and Innovation team (function). Director, Strategy works in a strong matrix/agile org structure requiring master level cross functional collaboration and influence management skills and matrix/functional decision-making discipline. Director serves as a collaborator to the regional leadership governing bodies to ensure proper facilitation and handoff of strategic plan to the appropriate project and work teams who are responsible for operationalizing the strategic plan. Director interacts and facilitates internal stakeholders including, regional c-suite leaders, medical, administrative strategy sponsors & owners, regional partners, support functions, operational service line dyad leadership and others to execute on the strategic planning processes. Director is responsible for working with regional leaders to help identify and work with the most prominent internal and external healthcare and potential disrupter subject matter experts to complete thorough external scan and competitive landscape analysis per operating model. Strategy function facilitates merging the strategic planning process with the long- and short-term financial plan including annual budget planning to ensure all approved strategies are properly funded with needed labor, expense, capital, technology, and infrastructure to successfully execute and operationalize the strategic plan. Strategy function, along with regional leadership and PMO are responsible for facilitating the creation of real time monitoring of and reporting of the enterprise and regional scoreboard. The scoreboard includes enterprise and regional quantified status and progress towards five-year, one-year goals and annual Wildly Important Goals (WIG) to regional c-suite and cascaded up to EET to achieve desired outcomes. Also responsible for ensuring regional PMO tracks and reports actual vs. demand of resource allocation to all types of work in the operating model. Director is responsible for the creation and continuous improvement of the strategy functional department level operating model and directly aligning with enterprise and regional operating model.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizational Regional Strategy and Implementation

    • Collaborates with regional C-suite, Vice Presidents and other Directors to study and understand external market financial, economic, and industry data, identifying market opportunities and threats.

    • Is accountable for creating and executing on, with Strategy & Innovation functional leadership and staff, the design and performance of clinically and fiscally responsive strategy functional goals and objectives.

    • Ensures continuous improvement to strategic planning aspects of the enterprise and regional operating models and evaluates and makes recommendations regarding changes required, taking into account shifts in enterprise and regional business plan, leading strategic planning practice trends, research, regulatory standards, and clinical practice.

    • Defines and establishes clear performance standards for their regional strategy function and monitors established management systems to ensure that continuous improvement forms the basis for all activities.

    • Collaborates with regional leadership and PMO to ensure that resources are prioritized and in place (i.e., staff, facilities, equipment, supplies, technology, data, and processes, etc.) and properly utilized to achieve enterprise and regional 5 yr. goals, 1 yr. goals, WIGS and performance objectives through the most effective and efficient strategy execution methods.

  • Fiscal Management

    • Develops and manages Strategy function to meet fiscal targets, ensuring the delivery of cost-effective quality services.

    • Participates in financial forecasting and planning along with other members of the strategy function's management team.

    • Develops and presents comprehensive analysis for financial and programmatic recommendations for strategy function's management.

    • Communicates the rationale for financial decisions ensuring a high level of understanding among strategy functional management and staff.

    • Evaluates strategy function for potential cost-effective change and manages the implementation of approved changes.

  • Human Resource Management

    • Provides vision and leadership to strategy functional management and staff in a collaborative environment that offers job satisfaction, performance recognition, and stimulates innovative thinking to accomplish objectives.

    • Ensures that strategy function's management and staff understand their roles in accomplishing the regional Team/Division, and functional strategic objectives. Establishes expectations for high level of performance and holds individuals accountable for achieving them

    • In collaboration with other functional leadership and the Human Resources Department, ensures the efficacy of systems/processes to recruit, retain, and develop a high-performance team that meets patient, regulatory, and fiscal requirements for their function.

    • In conjunction with Team/Division and System leadership, ensures staff productivity by maximizing staffing efficiency and workflow patterns as well as monitoring and controlling turnover.

    • Structures the integration of progressive change and conflict management.

    • Creates a climate that ensures respect, teamwork, open communication, and professional recognition among a diverse workforce.

  • Excellence in Service and Clinical Quality

    • Models and ensures that strategy functional staff effectively uphold a customer service orientation to meet legitimate needs of patients and internal and external customers.

    • Ensures that confidentiality of patient, staff, and appropriate management data is maintained, and delivers immediate consequences when confidentiality is compromised.

  • Organizational Leadership

    • Promotes the organization to all constituencies by interpreting and communicating BGHS's mission and values, acting as a loyal, supportive, and informed spokesperson for Functions, Team/Division, Region and the Enterprise.

    • Collaborates with other leaders and professionals to identify, reduce, and eliminate barriers within the enterprise which may negatively impact cost and quality of services.

    • In the spirit of collaboration, promotes the visibility of Team/Division leadership throughout the organization.

    • Provides the vision and manages a positive learning environment for students, interns, and residents working within their function, collaborating with academic programs, while ensuring patient safety.

    • Identifies areas for self-development and actively seeks opportunities and resources to meet developmental objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field required.

  • Master's degree in business administration (MBA) or related field preferred.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

  • N/A

Experience:

  • 10 years of business-related experience, including high-level strategic experience along with minimum of five years leadership experience is required.
