Recruitment/Posting Title Non-Tenure Track Assistant Research Professor for Medicaid Policy & Analytics
Department Center for State Health Policy
Salary Commensurate With Experience
Posting Summary
The Rutgers Center for State Health Policy (Center/CSHP) within the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research (IFH), a unit of Rutgers Health, is recruiting for highly skilled, enthusiastic non-tenure-track faculty at the Assistant Research Professor rank to contribute to the Center's extensive Medicaid research and policy analysis portfolio.
The faculty hired under this recruitment will contribute to the evaluation of the NJ FamilyCare Comprehensive Demonstration Waiver and other work that explores opportunities to improve care for Medicaid beneficiaries and related populations. We seek to appoint up to three assistant research professors who will serve as core members-in-residence within the CSHP/IFH.
The ideal candidate(s) will have experience applying rigorous research methods to evaluate Medicaid program innovations, including applying quasi-experimental causal inference techniques in the analysis of Medicaid claims and related datasets. Candidates who have demonstrated excellence in working with Medicaid program leadership and other non-academic/research audiences and those with strong understanding of Medicaid policy and operations are preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
It is expected that the faculty member will develop funding proposals to support their independent research agenda. The continuing availability of CSHP support for independent research over time is contingent on progress toward receipt of extramural funding. The Center will provide support to assist in proposal development. The faculty member is expected to include other CSHP and IFH faculty as collaborators and cover time of Center staff on the proposals that they develop, to the extent consistent with the scientific needs of those proposals.
Finalists for the position will be asked to provide three letters of recommendation. The initial contract appointment will be for one year, renewable for annual or multi-year periods, depending on productivity, overall performance, and continued availability of funding.

Overview
Rutgers Center for State Health Policy ("Center"/"CSHP") is an initiative within the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy an Aging Research, within Rutgers Health. The Center was conceived in response to the unique and essential role of the states in the formation and implementation of sound health policy in the American system of federalism. The passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010 has further elevated the importance of informed decision making by states.

Established in 1999 with major funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Center, with a total of twenty-five faculty and staff, combines Rutgers University's traditional academic strengths in public health, health services research, and social science with applied research and policy analysis initiatives. The Center's signature areas of research include Access and Coverage, Health and Long-Term Care Workforce, Health System Performance Improvement, Long-Term Services and Supports, and Population Health.

Within this core portfolio, CSHP marshals the expert resources of a team of multidisciplinary faculty and staff to:

  • Conduct rigorous, timely, and impartial research on health policy issues;
  • Provide objective and practical evaluation of programs and policy choices;
  • Convene the health policy community in a neutral forum to promote an active exchange of ideas on critical issues;
  • Educate current and future health policy makers, researchers, and administrators; and
  • Promote the practical application of scholarship in health policy.

The Center's work is supported by grants and contracts from a broad array of federal and state agencies as well as health care philanthropies and private organizations. CSHP's diverse funding portfolio includes the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality, the NJ Department of Human Services, the NJ Department of Health, the NJ Department of Children & Families and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Center exclusively conducts research in the public interest, publishing and disseminating its findings broadly.
