https://poultry-science.uark.edu/Summary of Job Duties:The Program Associate is expected to work independently to plan, conduct, and manage research projects, specifically related to poultry enteric health and parasitology, upon approval of the principal investigator. This position requires extensive hands-on experience with animal handling, including rearing poultry challenged with a commercially relevant pathogen of interest. The Program Associate will be responsible for coordinating and/or managing in vitro and in vivo studies for grant, student, and/or industry funded projects. For these projects, the Program Associate will be expected to prepare materials, collect data and samples appropriately, process samples (ex: microbiological sampling, traditional floatation techniques for identification of protozoa in fecal or environmental samples, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis), enter data, interpret results, prepare reports, and write manuscripts for publication. Additionally, the Program Associate's duties will include overseeing the daily activities of students and hourly workers both in the laboratory and at the farm, and organization of basic and applied research activities to include ordering supplies and maintaining inventory in the laboratory; training laboratory staff; scheduling of trials and reserving experimental facilities; assisting with projects and generally facilitating the smooth day-to-day operation of the lab. The Program Associate will also be responsible for maintaining protozoal stocks in the lab, which may include regular in vitro propagation, or isolation from field samples.Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Poultry Science plus a minimum of three years of experience conducting poultry disease research OR a MS degree in Poultry Science.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS Degree in Poultry Science
  • Experience working with protozoa, including Histomonas meleagridis, Cochlosoma anatis, and Eimeria spp.
