Communications

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a renowned international affairs institution with global operations, is seeking an Assistant Editor to join its communications team in Washington, DC. This position reports to the managing editor.

The responsibilities of Carnegie's in-house assistant editor primarily focus on proofreading our research publications before publication, as well as occasionally editing pieces. Our authors come from around the world, and their topics cover a full spectrum of political and economic issues and global foreign policy. Significant knowledge of and interest in a broad range of foreign policy topics is essential.

The successful candidate will have at least two years' experience ranging from proofreading to copyediting. They should be able to ensure consistent house style while placing emphasis on clarity and readability. A strong editing track record, especially work on research-based publications, together with knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style is required. The ideal candidate will have the poise and authority to work with busy policy experts and the sensitivity to manage the individual writing styles and time constraints of our authors. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work closely with the entire communications team and be able to independently prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent attention to detail and outstanding interpersonal skills are essential.
