A rapidly growing division of Nidec Motor Corporation seeks candidates for an Project Engineer 1 position, in St. Louis, MO. Nidec Motor Corporation (NMC) is a leading manufacturer of commercial, industrial, and appliance motors and controls. The NMC product line features a full line of high efficiency motors, large and small, which serve industrial, residential, and commercial markets. This role in the Motion Control division of Nidec will focus on applications utilizing electric drive systems in the robotics industry.

Job Description

Coordinate engineer activities associated with development and production launch of variable speed BLDC motors and gearmotors for motion control and robotics applications. Some key activities include specifying motor assemblies comprising of motors, gearboxes, sensors and controls. Additional activities include sampling motors to customers, obtaining agency approvals were necessary, setting up production BOM's and drawings, and providing product launch support at Nidec manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead small to large engineering projects to improve cost and quality of existing products
  • Lead new motor technology projects
  • Complete projects following a phase-gate project management process
  • Coordinate team meetings and conference calls with customer engineers, manufacturing, sales, and quality personnel
  • Create schedules, resource plans, test plans
  • Use lab tools and measuring equipment to test BLDC motors in applications
  • Graph technical and performance data and interpret results for review
  • Create and maintain production bill of materials and drawings
  • Support remote manufacturing plants.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve quality issue with motor designs and manufacturing processes

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • B.S in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 0-3 years work experience, preferably in electric motor industry
  • Co-op/Internship experience in engineering or manufacturing environment a plus
  • Informal leadership skills and ability to collaborate with multi-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills and team orientation
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to navigate Microsoft Office application and learn other computer skills
  • Familiarity/experience to safely operate hand tools and power tools (drills, band saw)Some travel required on a quarterly basis
