Provide leadership and program management of life safety, building, and fire code compliance for Columbia. Act as SME for International Code Council (ICC) model codes, including but not limited to IBC, IFC, and IMC as well as NFPA Standards. Act as SME for FP related regulatory, licensing and insurance requirements and provide interpretive guidance on the applicable requirements. Project Management experience in planning and design details including engineering concepts, distribution plans, riser diagrams, detail drawings, schedules, specifications, design analysis, engineering reports, etc. Responsibility and leadership of NRC Inspection Procedures 88054 and 88055 on Fire Protection. Program leadership and management of fire hazard analysis (FHA) as defined by the NRC and NFPA 801. Program management experience for facility compliance with OSHA, insurance, building code and NFPA requirements.

Your day to day:

  • Maintain and improve facility fire safety procedures to ensure they are usable by plant employees, reflect industry best practices, meet regulatory requirements while promoting a Safety Conscious Work Environment (SCWE) and a strong Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • Training associated with the facility fire safety procedures will also be required.
  • Manage the various Fire Safety Significant Controls and ensure the appropriate usage and integration with other safety disciplines, e.g. nuclear criticality safety, environmental protection, emergency preparedness, etc.
  • Manage the Fire Hazards Analysis (FHA) Document. Participate actively in internal audits of the Fire Safety programs as well as external audits conducted by the NRC/ANI (American Nuclear Insurers)/property insurance carriers and our corporate EHS entity.
  • Audit support, Level 2 procedure input.

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field with course work including thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics from an ABET accredited university.
  • 10 years of experience in a technical fire protection design or consulting role involving fire protection systems and programs is required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in Fire Safety Management Systems, Risk Management processes, Audit/Assessment Processes including NRC Inspection Procedures 88054 and 88055 Demonstrate knowledge and have work experience in Fire Safety Suppression and Detection systems.
  • Communication and writing skills are required as well as the ability to influence and effectively partner with others is required.
  • Technical fire protection design and testing with international project experience.
  • Licensed as a professional engineer in the fire protection discipline or have a master's degree in fire protection engineering from an ABET accredited program.
