The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Special Projects Manager within the Preservation Department, the incumbent will perform a variety of tasks to support the Library's digitization program including: performing quality control on digitized still image, audio, and moving image materials, images, and other media as necessary; creating, editing, and verifying metadata; preparing and packing archival print, audio, and moving materials to be shipped to vendors; gathering and preparing statistics; performing other duties as assigned.

Tests: A/V and image quality control; color QC test on Photoshop.

Responsibilities

  • Digital File Quality Control:
    • Perform project and quality control on vendor-generated digital images, audio, and moving image files.
    • Using specialized software, assess visual and/or auditory quality of files, confirm file specifications, validate checksums, and verify and correct vendor-supplied descriptive metadata.
    • Upload files to the server.
  • Preparation and Metadata:
    • Carry out physical preparation and assist with packing and shipping media objects for vendor projects.
    • Receive metadata from curators and archivists for CUL materials (primarily archival) to be sent to vendors via spreadsheet.
    • Perform cleanup and organization of existing metadata as necessary using a variety of tools, including Excel, Google Sheets, and Open Refine.
    • Enhance metadata as necessary by using such tools as CUL's Archive Portal, CLIO and OCLC.
    • Perform subject analysis as necessary.
    • Generate metadata spreadsheets to be sent to vendors.
  • General Tasks:
    • Gather and prepare statistics.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or its equivalent and one year of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to accurately assess quality of image, audio, and video files, including critical listening and viewing skills.
  • Ability to work with digital media and image files.
  • Experience with audio and video playback software.
  • Basic proficiency with MS Word and Excel or equivalents, and with Mac and Windows operating systems.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain production levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling and working with archival audio and moving image media formats.
  • Knowledge of time-based media preservation workflows.
  • Experience with and knowledge of digital media file formats.
  • Experience with audio and/or video quality control, including proficiency with A/V quality control software.
  • Experience with MediaInfo or other file analysis tools.
  • Experience with command line operations.
