Huntsman is seeking a Quality Control Technician supporting the Polyurethanes Division located in Arlington, Texas. This position will report to the Quality Control Lead.

Job Scope

The Quality Control Technician follows procedures to ensure the quality of our chemical blends through testing and comparing results with set specifications for each product. As an integral member of the Technology department, they assist R&D in testing new products to keep Huntsman Building Solutions competitive in the SPFA market.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct testing according to established procedures on Production batches, incoming materials, and some R&D material:
  • Tests include but are not limited to water titration, FTIR analysis, viscosity, specific gravity, density, hand mix and spray reactivity, thermal conductivity, color comparison, and foam spraying.
  • Record test results:
  • Results will be recorded on a computer using SAP software, in lab notebooks and logs, and on batch sheets.
  • Release or hold batches.
  • The QC technician once properly trained is responsible for releasing batches if they meet all specifications and criteria.
  • If batches do not meet specifications s/he notifies the QC Chemist and/or Lab Manager.
  • Calibrate equipment weekly or as needed.
  • Prepare, maintain and clean spray room and equipment for QC and R&D testing.
  • Set up and shut down spray reactors as needed.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble spray guns as needed to maintain guns in working, ready-to-use order.
  • Wall frameworks will be built or disassembled as needed by the QC technician.
  • The foam will be disposed of as directed after each spray.
  • The spray room will be tidied and swept to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Maintain and organize retains.
  • Dispose of expired retains into waste drums on a daily basis.
  • Shift remaining and new retains to maintain storage organization.
  • Maintain laboratory and workspace cleanliness.
  • The QC Technician is responsible weekly for sweeping wiping surfaces and equipment and general tidying in the laboratory.
  • Expected daily to take out the garbage and clean personal workspace.
  • Assist the QC chemist in organizing and maintaining records.
  • Assist R&D with spraying or lab testing as needed.

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School or GED is the minimum however a technician diploma or training is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Skilled to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook and learn how to use new software programs easily.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Communicates excellently in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Excels in safety consciousness and following procedures.
  • Strong team player in QC as well as interdepartmentally.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

Working conditions:

  • Non Climate controlled manufacturing facility.
  • Must be able to work with isocyanates.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to lift 40-50 lbs.
  • Must be able to participate daily in some physically strenuous activity.
  • Must be able to pass a lung function test and wear a respirator.
