GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Provides, and is accountable for, patient care according to the philosophy and standards of the Department of Pediatrics and in accordance with the rules and regulations of Massachusetts governing NP practices. Executes and evaluates treatment techniques within the scope of NP practice to assess and manage the patient population; demonstrates advanced problem solving skills in all aspects of medical and nursing assessment, care and treatment. Utilizes appropriate clinical skills to integrate and implement the nursing process with the plan of care. Incumbent functions as a clinical resource for the patient, consistently providing direction and support to ensure a focus in the team goals and patient driven outcomes. The NP functions within the role expectations of his/her area and delegates duties to other caregivers as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Care Management
1. Provides comprehensive patient care in alignment with the Pediatric Allergy clinical team and in accordance with the nursing process and practice standards.
2. Diagnose medical conditions and plans and orders medical consultation, interventions and plans based on assessment and protocols under the direction of, and in consultation/collaboration with, a supervising physician or designee.
3. Evaluates and analyzes the patient's response to disease processes and therapeutic interventions and alters the plan as needed.
4. Documents all assessment data, orders, interventions, results and evaluations within the patient's medical record per established standards.
5. Provides information, education, and support to patients and families and includes them in planning care and discharge planning.
6. Serves as a resource person to members of the multidisciplinary team, to facilitate and coordinate patient care delivery based on expertise in area of specialty.
7. Supervises food and drug challenges and oral immunotherapy (OIT) administration during outpatient clinic sessions, collaborating with the clinical nursing staff to ensure safe clinical care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Current NP certification granted by a Board recognized certifying organization
* Eligible for prescriptive practice
* BLS required (or secured within the first three months of employment). PALS certification preferred.
