Houghton Mifflin seeks a full time Senior DevOps Engineer at our offices located at 125 High Street, Boston, MA 02110.

What you will do

The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and managing a world-class infrastructure to support HMH's products and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the seamless and reliable transition of automation systems from development to production by designing and implementing optimized continuous integration, release, and deployment.
  • Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code (IAC) to ensure system availability, scalability, and quality.
  • Implement containerized applications using cloud services and orchestration tools while optimizing resource allocation to facilitate dynamic application scaling.
  • Enforce security measures within the Cloud provider, ensuring that security is an integral part of both processes and tools.
  • Establish and configure the monitoring infrastructure, create comprehensive monitoring dashboards, and set up alerts and thresholds using advanced monitoring tools.
  • Design and document system infrastructure and procedures.
  • Collaborate with project managers, department heads, and team members to define project strategies, establish project parameters, and set priorities.
  • Actively participate in daily scrum meetings to monitor and drive progress.
  • Implement and optimize CI/CD practices and methodologies for micro services and server-less architectures to enable rapid and reliable software deployments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to automate code promotion, optimize system performance, and communicate effectively with architects and management.
  • Perform system audits, document findings, and publish recommendations.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and deployment of new technologies and tools.
  • Work with colleagues to optimize overall system performance, which includes working with applications, network, storage, database, and server technology.
  • Assist in the development of HMH security policies and procedures regarding system and data access.
  • Design, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GIT, and Infrastructure as Code technologies to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery processes.
  • Utilize expert level knowledge in AWS cloud technologies to design, implement, and optimize cloud-based solutions for various business needs.

What you will need

Bachelor's degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline, plus five years of experience in a related DevOps engineering role.

Experience, which may be gained concurrently, to include each of the following:

  • 5 years of experience utilizing Jenkins, GIT, Infrastructure as Code Technologies to implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
  • 5 years of experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment practices and methodologies for micro services architecture and server-less services.
  • 5 years of experience with one of the following Cloud Technologies and Providers: AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • 5 years of experience with containerization and orchestration tools including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • 5 years of experience with Monitoring, Alerting and Logging tools.
  • 5 years of experience automating large scale Operational Linux Environments and deployments utilizing one or more of the following: Python, Bash, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • 5 years of experience with database and cloud storage technologies from a systems administration, backup and maintenance perspective.
  • 5 years of experience assessing the effectiveness of processes and procedures and leading process improvement efforts include documenting and implementing.
  • 5 years of experience implementing and maintaining security measures such as access controls, vulnerability scanning, and compliance checks throughout the software development and deployment lifecycle.

Salary: $157,643 - $160,000/year.

Telecommuting from any US home office location is permitted.
