Position Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President, Blood Production and Distribution, plans and integrates all functions of the Core Production Laboratories across the Versiti footprint. Responsible for leadership and oversight of all component manufacturing across 5 states and 7 locations. Identifies opportunities to standardize and streamline operations, through operational and cost efficiencies. Ensures all processes are designed in a quality manner and in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.

Responsibilities
    Core Laboratory Management Oversight * Ensure prompt creation of blood components from all units drawn to maintain adequate component inventory levels * Research of new technologies and methods to assure state of the art processes. Works with Operations Support to develop validation and implementation plans and timelines to meet organizational goals * Ensures external and internal customer needs are met and product loss is minimized * Maintains appropriate staffing levels, 24/7, to meet production and quality expectations * Implements departmental policies as needed to ensure the production of quality blood products
  • Quality and Regulatory Oversight * Coordinates with Medical Director and Quality as needed for changes in process or nonconforming materials * Participates in Quality Board meetings to ensure quality of operations and uniformity of processes * Ensures corrective and preventative actions are successful and effective * Maintains knowledge of laboratory regulations and accreditation requirements * Establishes and monitors systems to ensure equipment maintenance, record keeping, and provision of supplies are handled in a quality manner
  • Human Resource Management * Accountable for human resource management, including support for hiring, scheduling, mentoring, discipline and termination in collaboration with state supervisors and Human Resources * Ensures departmental training of staff is executed in a timely manner and staff are competent in all job related tasks * Provides growth and development opportunities for state supervisors and high potential staff to encourage retention and professional development * Sets departmental goals in alignment with business unit and organizational goals, ensures goals are measurable and relevant * Conducts performance evaluations for direct reports, provides 1-up oversight of performance evaluations for staff
  • Financial Management * Prepares and monitors expense, revenue, and capital budgets with assistance from state supervisors * Ensures departmental activities are conducted within established budget and prioritizes and allocates resources as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards
Qualifications

Education

  • Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent experience) in a biological or allied health science required
  • Master's Degree in an applied science, business, or Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) preferred

Experience

  • 7-9 years current management experience in a regulated environment to include operational, logistical, financial and human resource responsibilities required
  • 4-6 years blood center management experience with demonstrated leadership skills preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other department manuals.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including team building, problem solving and organizational abilities
  • Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) laws and guidances, and AABB standards
  • Experience in monitoring, maintaining, and assessing quality of products
  • Ability to work a flexible working schedule and travel as required to engage work teams across all states
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
